Operator behind hugely popular online casino brands Spilnu and Lyckost appoints new CEO to drive international expansion

CEGO, the operator of hugely popular online casino brands Spilnu and Lyckost, has appointed Allan Auning-Hansen as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Auning-Hansen joins the operator and content developer from the international Juice and Sandwich company, Joe and the Juice, where he was Chief Financial Officer.
.
He has also held senior management roles at Danske Spil, Qvartz Consulting and Deloitte. He was a board member of CEGO until his appointment as CEO this month.

As CEO, Auning- Hansen has been tasked with continuing the early and significant progress made by CEGO founders, who will continue to play an active role in the business.

Another key focus will be international expansion and taking Spilnu and Lyckost beyond the Danish and Swedish markets they currently target respectively.

This includes a push into the highly competitive UK market after recently securing a licence from the Great Britain Gambling Commission.

Spilnu has taken the Danish market by storm since making its debut in 2012. It offers players a targeted selection of classic slots and video slots, including a suite of games developed in-house by CEGO.

It is these in-house games that account for the majority of revenue generated at Spilnu – more than 80% of GGR is generated via proprietary content.

Lyckost launched in Sweden in 2019 with the same concept and foundation as sister site Spilnu, a proposition that has proved to work well also with Swedish players.

Allan Auning-HansenChief Executive Officer at CEGO, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed CEO of this incredible organisation and to be taking a more hands on role.

“The world is very much our playing field so long as we continue to focus on regulated markets, which is at the heart of our expansion plan.

“We have access to a large amount of data which we use to fine-tune our offering for each market we enter, taking a country-by-country approach.

“This means we can deliver a localised product into each market, not only meeting but exceeding player expectations and this has been a key factor in our success to date.

“As CEO, I look forward to taking this to the next level.”

Jesper Karbrink, Chairman at CEGO, said: “In Allan we have a CEO with a proven track record of driving growth across a wide range of companies and in various sectors.

“He has played a part in our story to date in the capacity of board member, but now he has the opportunity to have greater influence over the business as we continue to expand.

“I look forward to working closely with Allan as we launch into additional regulated markets around the world.”

Bacta issues rallying call following General Election delay to gambling reforms

Bacta, the trade body which represents the UK low stake gaming and amusements sectors is urging an incoming government to ‘finish the job’ of modernising gambling regulations and in the process to continue the industry’s support of regional economies throughout the country.

In a message to members released shortly after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called a surprise General Election for July 4th, Bacta President John Bollom said: “A snap General Election was always the biggest risk to getting the Gambling White Paper reforms passed into law.

“I am asking every Bacta member to contact their parliamentary candidates – especially the Labour Party candidates – to encourage them to support the land-based gambling reforms.

“We will be issuing advice to members on how to do this in the coming days.

“It is imperative, if there is a change in Government, that the Labour Party finishes the job and supports modernisation of our sector to support both the High Street and seaside towns.

“The reforms are so vital for our sector. I like to think they may have been delayed not derailed. Our campaign continues.”

Swedish BOS rejects the proposal “A new ban on gambling on credit”

Published

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) submits its statement to the Ministry of Finance on the memorandum “A new ban on gambling on credit”, in which a ban on credit cards for gambling is proposed.

BOS rejects the proposal. This is justified by Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling, among other things through the proposal’s negative consequences on channelization.

If the government nevertheless goes ahead with the proposal, BOS proposes that the obligation not to mediate payments for gambling purposes be imposed on those issuing credit cards rather than on gambling operators. In this way, it will be prohibited for credit card issuers, under the supervision of the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen), to mediate payments via credit cards for all gambling companies, including illegal and/or unlicensed gambling companies. Almost half of the Swedish online casino market is unlicensed and/or illegal due to heavy restrictions of the licensed market.

In the name of consumer protection Sweden should not add new restrictions on consumers that still place their bets on the legal gambling market. That is the main reason for us to turn this suggestion down. Should the government want to proceed with a credit card prohibition on gambling, we suggest that such restriction is directed not towards gambling operators but credit card issuers, since the latter are also serving the half of the market that is illegal and unlicensed, says Gustaf Hoffstedt.
