Maksim Baev, Trio group of companies: “One of the most controversial topics today is the future of online betting in Russia”
We all know that last summer legislation allowing online bets has been enforced. According to the law, bets can be accepted in betting shops – members of self-regulating organizations having the license of Federal Tax Service. In order to talk about when and how could one make online bets on bookmaker websites, we invited development director at Trio group of companies (PBK) Maksim Baev to RGW-2015. In this exclusive interview he told us about his campaign and explained the significance of this topic.
RGW: Tell us more about yourself, your professional achievements, and company’s field of activity.
I work at bookmakers holding TRIO GROUP. My general area of activity involves development of partners’ betting shops network in RF and in CIS (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia), participation in improving of holding’s bookmaking software – sports family “First Bookmaking Company”.
Company’s operations are aimed at betting market and all of its diversity, launching and licensing of new betting shops, integrating innovational ideas in betting content, establishing contacts with other market players and development of a unified development strategy for bookmakers, taking into account legislative changes and common state of economics.
RGW: What about your presentation at the conference – who will it be aimed at, who shall attend the event?
For my presentation, I’ve chosen one of the most hot and controversial topics for today – the future of online betting in Russia. It involves key questions, interesting for all active market players.
The thing is, latest changes to law and the term “interactive bet” made us thinking that online bookmakers might leave the shadows. In my presentation, I’d like to set the record straight and define the thing that should be understood as an “interactive bet” and record center of interactive bets present in this Federal Law. Also I’d like to dwell upon the possible development prospects of this topic in RF. I would like to make a comparison with other countries with officially regulated online gambling.
RGW: Can you estimate the state of gambling industry? What do you expect to see in the future?
I’d say, right now it’s intermediary. Current law quite reasonably regulates activity of land-based bookmakers, but there are still lots of gaps in online segment.
I can’t give any predictions, but we all keep up with the situation and legislative changes. Given that technical progress and globalization is moving forward engaging all areas (including gambling), these changes become a thing of vital importance for business development. Previously, half of all players didn’t use gadgets, but now it has changed and the Internet access is and inherent part of gameplay, even for land-based betting shops.
RGW: What do you think can become a benefit of such conferences as RGW, what would you like to hear at the conference, and why does one have to attend?
These conferences are certainly necessary. As with any other segment, market participants need to meet from time to time, present new software developments, share legal experience, establish new contacts. As for my own interest, I’d like to discover innovations in betting mobile apps development.
