PokerStars suspends all operations in Romania until the gambling regulations are eased up

Due to the recent changes in the Romanian gambling legislation, PokerStars feels forced to quit their offerings in the country for an undetermined period of time.

PokerStars has also suspended their affiliate program in the country and their move is to be in order and obey the country’s regulations. According to some rumours, the giant online and landbased poker provider is expected to apply for a new license in Romania soon and come back bigger and stronger than ever. The terms of licensing of course still include the 20% back-tax, however we predict that this will change by the end of the year.

The Romanian gambling laws were modified this June in order to attract and bring more international operators.

However the closure of PokerStars Romania is eclipsed by the recently updated list of licensed operators in Romania, a list which now includes 4 operators. The 4th licensed operator is the second land-based sports betting operator that  started offering a web based format for players to bet online as well. Romanian players can now bet online at www.casapariurilor.ro as well, the operator is registered in Zagreb, Croatia under PRV SPORSTKA KLADIONI CA d.o.o.

If this trend continues and local sportsbetting shops will start offering online options as well and apply for online licenses, we can predict 10 online sportsbetting portals to be licensed by the end of the year only from the local market. It seems the Miss. Nestor’s predictions are starting to gain shape and we can see the list of operators acquiring licenses to offer online sports betting options.
