Scientific Games wins 2026 Communitas Award for pallet recycling project in Germany
Program donates scratchcard shipping pallets to Bethel workshops, where people with disabilities turn the wood into products for sale.
Scientific Games has won a 2026 Communitas Award for Excellence in Corporate Responsibility for a wooden shipping pallet recycling initiative in Germany, the company said Oct. 12, 2026. The award was made in the Ethical and Environmental Responsibility: Green Initiatives category.
The program centers on pallets used to ship lottery scratchcards to German lotteries. Scientific Games said it donates hundreds of used pallets to the v. Bodelschwingh Foundations Bethel, where the untreated wood is repurposed into birdhouses and toys produced by members of the disabled community at Bethel’s Kracks Workshop. The finished items are sold in Bethel’s retail shop, with proceeds supporting the organization’s programs and workshop operations.
“We are honored to be recognized with a Communitas Award for this project, which is a great example of our global efforts to invest in locally led initiatives that create measurable environmental and social impact, strengthen communities and deliver lasting value,” said Andrew Jackson, VP, Corporate Responsibility for Scientific Games.
“Our team initiated an innovative opportunity to put a valuable material back to work in the community,” said Dunja Vukotic-Finkler, Director, Instant Tickets & Service Operations, Scientific Games. “Through our partnership with Bethel, these pallets are becoming products that support skills development and employment for people with disabilities. We are proud to see an initiative rooted in our everyday operations recognized for environmental and social benefits.”
Scientific Games said the partnership is ongoing and that regular material contributions are helping Bethel expand woodworking capacity and prepare for larger projects. Jürgen Hoff, head of Bethel’s Kracks Workshop, added that access to quality donated wood is particularly valuable during economically challenging periods when charitable contributions decline.
The company said the 2026 award follows two Communitas Awards in 2025 for the SG Tech Project, which donates refurbished technology to local schools, and volunteer participation in a STEAM career mentoring program for young women.
