NSW Crime Commission chief Stephen Dametto confirmed for Regulating the Game 2027

Sydney conference adds AUSTRAC and regional regulators as agenda centres on illegal supply and financial crime risks.

Regulating the Game has confirmed Stephen Dametto, Commissioner of the New South Wales Crime Commission, as a speaker for Regulating the Game 2027, set for 8–10 March 2027 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth in Sydney.

Organisers said the seventh edition’s program is focused on “the scale and persistence of illegal supply and the financial crime that moves through licensed channels.” Dametto leads the NSW Crime Commission, which conducted a 2022 inquiry into money laundering through electronic gaming machines in hotels and clubs.

Dametto joins a speaker group that includes Brendan Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of AUSTRAC, alongside senior regulators and officials from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom. Confirmed names include Daniel Tan, Chief Executive of Singapore’s Gambling Regulatory Authority; Paul James, Secretary for Internal Affairs and Chief Executive of New Zealand’s Department of Internal Affairs Te Tari Taiwhenua; Vicki Scott, Director Gambling at the same department; and Carolyn Lidgerwood, Authority Member of the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

Canada is also set to feature prominently on the 2027 agenda, with confirmed speakers including Paul Burns, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Gaming Association; Amanda Brewer, the association’s Senior Vice President, Policy and Communications; and Peter McMahon, Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Gaming Association of Ontario. The program includes a dedicated session titled “Canada’s Gambling Landscape at a Crossroads: Defining Success in a Changing Environment.”

“The international dimension is what lifts the program,” said Paul Newson, Founder of Regulating the Game and Principal at Vanguard Overwatch. Awards nominations for the 2027 RTG Global Awards close 21 December 2026, with winners to be recognised at the gala dinner on 9 March 2027.
