Stake secures AGLC licence ahead of Alberta iGaming launch

Stake Canada Ltd. has secured a licence from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), clearing a key regulatory step ahead of its entry into Alberta’s newly regulated online gaming market. The company said it expects to become fully operational on October 12, 2026, subject to executing an Operating Agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC).

Kris Abbott, Country Manager at Stake Canada, said: "Stake has built one of the world's most recognizable brands in online gaming by doing things differently. We move faster, we build bigger and we create an entertainment experience that genuinely shapes internet and sports culture.

“Our planned entry into Alberta represents an exciting milestone step for us in Canada – we are not here to blend in. We are here to raise the bar and bring the distinctive Stake experience to Alberta’s highly engaged player audience."

Stake said the Alberta licence expands its footprint in regulated markets, citing operations in Italy and Denmark, and in Latin America including Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina. The company positioned the move as part of a strategy to pair its global platform with locally licensed operations.

Birgitte Sand, board member at Stake Canada, said: "Stake Canada’s approach to regulated market-entry is grounded in preparation, accountability and a long-term commitment to compliance,” said Birgitte Sand, board member at Stake Canada. “Securing licensing in Alberta provides a strong foundation for the company’s development in Canada and reflects the importance we place on meeting local standards and player safety. We commend the Alberta government, the AGLC and the AiGC for their work to establish Alberta’s regulated iGaming framework."

Stake said its Alberta platform will operate under AGLC standards and include responsible gaming and player protection measures once launched.
