BGaming takes WE CARE. WE ACT sustainability push to Portugal

At SBC Summit Lisbon, the studio used recycled stand materials, cut print by 16 kg of paper and backed VIVA Lab education projects.

BGaming has extended its WE CARE. WE ACT sustainability initiative to Portugal around SBC Summit in Lisbon, rolling out recycled stand materials and merchandise, joining a beach clean-up, and partnering with Porto-based non-profit VIVA Lab.

At the event, BGaming said it built its SBC Summit stand using panels made from recycled materials and cut back on printed collateral by issuing visitors a single recyclable card with a QR code. The company said the shift to digital materials avoided printing approximately 16 kg of paper.

BGaming also pointed to changes in its event merchandise, including items made from organic cotton and custom poker sets made from 100% recycled plastic. The supplier specification cited by the company said more than 95% of the material came from post-consumer waste, with no glue or toxic additives used. BGaming also said it distributed carabiners made using 7 kg of recycled plastic.

After the expo, BGaming took part in a beach clean-up organised by the Lisbon Oceanarium. The company said its team collected 2 kg of plastic and 1 kg of cigarette butts in two hours.

In Porto, BGaming has partnered with VIVA Lab to support the lab’s Precious Plastic project and Plastic Play educational activities. BGaming said the programme will run a series of 10 activities for up to 240 students, with approximately 60–70 kg of polypropylene (PP) transformed in the process.

Kate Puteiko, CMO at BGaming, said, “WE CARE. WE ACT is not just a slogan for us; it is a principle we operate by. Lisbon is such a marvelous city, and it welcomes the entire industry every year for the expo. We want to make sure that we, as part of the industry, give back to Portugal.

“It has been a pleasure to work closely with VIVA Lab. This organization is doing a fantastic job of raising awareness of the issues facing our environment, and we are proud to support them in reaching their goals.

“The beach clean-up is the part I was looking forward to the most. As a team, it is easy to say you care, but actually getting involved and doing something is what really matters.”

Alexandra Baltazar, Chief Education Officer at VIVA Lab Porto, said, “This partnership has been very important for VIVA Lab because it allows us to reach and inspire more young people through Plastic Play, using plastic recycling as a hands-on tool for learning about sustainability and the circular economy.

“With the development of the manual, this impact can go even further, as the activities can be replicated across Europe by other spaces working with Precious Plastic machines.”
