Super Technologies Converts Restricted Betting Shops into Community Hubs

In the context of OUG 7/2026, which allows local authorities to prohibit gambling within localities, Super, the company that owns the commercial brand Superbet, has decided that all affected spaces will remain open and become community centers dedicated to football and fans – “Home of Superliga”. The decision protects the jobs of all employees in the affected localities.

The recent legislative amendment transferred to local councils the right to prohibit gambling activities in their own localities. Some local administrations have already adopted banning decisions, leading to a number of agencies ceasing their activity. For many operators, the response has been to close locations and lay off staff.

Super Chose a Different Path

In localities where gambling can no longer be carried out, the company does not close the premises or lay off any employees. These are transformed into “Home of Superliga” locations – spaces open to the community, where people can meet, watch Superliga and major competitions together, and benefit from direct, face-to-face assistance from employees they already know.

“We respect the legal framework and the decisions of local administrations. At the same time, we regret that a series of such decisions affect our employees, who ultimately bear the effects of these decisions. Therefore, we choose to protect ourselves and keep our colleagues in these circumstances,” said Adrian Turiga, Retail Director for the Superbet brand in Romania.

Through “Home of Superliga”, the Superbet brand reconfirms its commitment to Romanian sports, as a partner of the Superliga, and the company’s agencies maintain their role as a meeting point for supporters.

“An administrative decision can change what we are allowed to do in a space, but it cannot cancel the things that unite us. As the main partner of the Superliga, we have a responsibility towards Romanian football and towards the people who live it. Our agencies already say ‘This is the Superliga’ and we make sure that this remains true, transforming these spaces into places where the community gathers around the sport. For us, this means being part of a community: staying there even when it’s harder,” added Andrei Popa, General Manager of Super Romania.

Super will continue the dialogue with central and local authorities to identify solutions that will protect both communities and jobs.
