Bilibili restructures its self-developed games business

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Chinese games and entertainment company Bilibili has restructured its gaming business and established a self-developed game publishing department that will be headed by Chen Tongpeng, reporting directly to Chen Rui, the CEO. Chen Tongpeng has more than 13 years of experience in the games industry working at Tencent, CMGE, and MiHoYo.

Most recently he was working at Tencent’s global publishing brand, Level Infinite, to manage the release of Tower of Fantasy. Bilibili originally set up six internal studios working on self-developed games, and in November 2022 it restructured this segment to be directly controlled by the CEO.

With this latest restructure, it’s believed that Bilibili will consolidate all staff into a single studio and focus on the development of two games, rather than the more than a dozen projects it had in development prior.

Bilibili has struggled to find a breakout hit beyond its legacy titles Fate/Grand Order in China and Azur Lane overseas, neither of which are self-developed titles. Bilibili also reduced its investment in gaming companies over the past year.

It’s believed this restructure will allow Bilibili to integrate its development and operation resources and promote the development of core self-developed titles.
