BLAST is teaming up with Copenhagen Gaming Week, with the esports entertainment company named as the official tournament partner for the Esports Arena ahead of the inaugural Copenhagen Gaming Week event in January 2024.

Copenhagen Gaming Week is Denmark’s new international festival encompassing everything related to gaming and esports. Visitors of all ages can explore the tech of the future, delve into the hottest trends of the present, and celebrate the retro-gaming classics of the past, all while fostering and expanding a unique community with others who share the same passion.

BLAST, has delivered a number of esports tournaments over the last few years across a variety of games including the global Counter-Strike tournament series BLAST Premier, and will bring a new Counter-Strike 2 tournament to Copenhagen Gaming Week’s esports arena. Notably, BLAST recently hosted the final major event in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – the precursor to Counter-Strike 2 – the BLAST.tv Major in Paris, receiving global acclaim for the spectacle.

No other city in the world is hosting as many large-scale esports events as Copenhagen in 2023. Three of the world’s biggest game publishers in Ubisoft, Epic Games and Valve have been working with BLAST to bring three large-scale events to Copenhagen in the shape of the BLAST R6 Major (Rainbow Six Siege) in the Forum, the FNCS Global Championships (Fortnite) and the BLAST Premier Fall Final (Counter-Strike 2), both in Royal Arena.

Copenhagen Gaming Week’s Counter-Strike 2 tournament will capture BLAST’s expertise and technology to showcase a selection of pre-invited world-class teams alongside challengers sourced through an upcoming online pre-tournament, details of which will be released soon. This qualification phase will provide both local and regional teams the opportunity to vie for a chance to compete on the grand stage alongside established stars.

James Woollard, Head of Commercial for BLAST, said: “BLAST takes great pride in powering Copenhagen Gaming Week’s mission to establish an esports tournament providing more opportunities to the growing local scene in Denmark while offering fans next level entertainment. Together, we’re poised to deliver an unforgettable experience for fans and teams alike, by bringing our unique approach to fan-first production and adrenaline-fueled live events. We have been bringing tier one esports events to Copenhagen since 2017 and are delighted to be able to bring more CS2 to the world outside of our BLAST Premier ecosystem.”

Kevin Thyge Helsinghof, Commercial Director at Bellagroup, remarks: “We are thrilled to welcome BLAST on board as a partner at Copenhagen Gaming Week. It’s a pleasure to collaborate with such a strong ally, and we’re enthusiastic about delivering a Danish-rooted tournament that unites players, fans, and communities in Bella Arena, which is now taking the next step as an international esports hub.”

Copenhagen Gaming Week will take place at Bella Center Copenhagen and Bella Arena from January 12-14, 2024.

More details on the format, teams and qualification process for the CS2 tournament at Copenhagen Gaming Week will be shared in the near future.

UNIVERSITY Esports is back for its Spring 2025 Season, which is open to students from universities across the UK and Ireland and brings with it five tournaments and six weeks of action across Overwatch 2, League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and VALORANT. The tournaments will give students the opportunity to showcase their competitive skills against their peers, while also helping to build the grassroots gaming community – as participants play with their friends and make new ones.

This season of UNIVERSITY Esports follows high participation in the previous Winter 2024 Season, where over 600 teams and 3,000 players took part every week. UNIVERSITY Esports currently counts more than 20,000 people across more than 110 universities registered in the community.

Broadcasts of the Winter 2024 Grand Finals were produced by students from the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies (at Nottingham Trent University), in partnership with UNIVERSITY Esports staff to support the next generation of broadcasters.

Beyond competition

UNIVERSITY Esports, a grassroots esports organiser in the UK and Ireland operated by NUEL (a subsidiary of GGTech Entertainment), is about much more than just online competition, and also plays a big role in fostering communities and providing career opportunities and education.

Winter also saw the return of the UNIVERSITY Tour, an in-person series of events aimed at raising awareness of the esports community and building real-life connections between players. Nottingham Trent University and the University of Staffordshire hosted these face-to-face activities, with hundreds of students engaged about the benefits of participating in the esports community both professionally and to have fun.
