SBK Gold Trophy to ‘rival’ Cheltenham Gold Cup

As part of its growing support for horse racing, SBK has boosted the prize money of the SBK Gold Trophy at Doncaster today (2pm) to make it the richest Class 4 jumps race for a decade, with a total prize fund of £25,000.

Lucinda Russell’s Douglas Talking is the early market leader for the Gold Trophy, however SBK will be cheering on brand ambassador Tom Bellamy aboard current second-favourite Ahead Of The Field.

All SBK customers will earn a £10 free bet for the Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.30pm) if they place a £10 bet on the SBK Gold Trophy.

Smarkets spokesperson Adam Baylis said: “We’re really enjoying doing lots more in racing and wanted to have a little bit of fun on one of the biggest racing days in the calendar with the inaugural running of the SBK Gold Trophy. We know the main focus is on Cheltenham but we saw this as a chance to be part of the conversation and it’s great to be able to offer a boosted prize pot away from the Festival.”

SBK is also sponsoring the upcoming Lincoln meeting at Doncaster on 26 March; the traditional flat season curtain-raiser.
