Williams Racing’s George Russell will go in search of his sixth consecutive F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix victory this Sunday at Interlagos in the Virtual São Paulo Grand Prix. The three-race competition comes to an end this weekend, but it is still all to play for as the teams compete one last time to win a share of a $100,000 prize pot for their charities.

Alex Albon, Red Bull Racing Test and Reserve Driver and Wings for Life ambassador, finished second in last weekend’s Virtual British Grand Prix, putting Red Bull in third place in the standings, and will be joined in this Sunday’s race by Red Bull Driftbrother Johannes Hountondji. Haas currently lead the championship standings following another high-scoring race for Pietro and Enzo Fittipaldi, who return this weekend to try and secure top spot. Ferrari sit in second position in the standings and are also calling upon young talent this weekend with Ferrari Driver Academy duo Arthur Leclerc and Dino Beganovic competing for them.

Nicolas Prost will be hoping to emulate his father Alain’s real-world F1 heroics when he lines up for Alpine alongside French comedian Arnaud Tsamere, whilst Mercedes will be relying on motorcycle rider Jake Dixon and cycling world champion Rohan Dennis, who both swap two wheels for four this weekend. Alfa Romeo continue with the same pairing of Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and content creator Jack McDermott, aka The Pie Face, for the third consecutive race, as do AlphaTauri, who will be represented by former F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi and professional motorcycle rider Luca Salvadori. The full line-up will be announced across the official F1 social media channels ahead of the event.

Teams are taking part in the Virtual Grands Prix to donate money to charities they have chosen to race for, and each nominated charity will receive a significant donation from the overall prize fund, regardless of whether the team finishes first or last in the standings following this week’s final race.

This year’s Virtual Grand Prix events will begin with a sprint-race, featuring the teams’ F1 Esports Pro Series drivers, to decide the starting grid, before the teams’ pairings, made up of motorsport stars, sporting heroes and celebrities, take to the track and compete.

The Virtual São Paulo Grand Prix will be broadcast from 18:00 GMT on Sunday 14 February on the official Formula 1 YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, Huya (China) and Weibo (China) channels, as well as broadcast by international television partners including Sky Sports, ESPN, FOX Sports and Ziggo.

Julian Tan, Head of Digital Business Initiatives & Esports at Formula 1 said: “We are thrilled to have been able to bring fans around the world competitive racing in the off-season for the first time, as we look ahead to start of the 2021 season in Bahrain next month. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the drivers that have taken part in the competition, doing so for their teams’ charity, whilst putting on a show for supporters at home. We have a big year ahead planned for F1 Esports, and this has been a fantastic way to kick it off!”

Over 180 Rangers fans came together over the weekend to raise money for Glasgow-based homelessness charities and the Rangers Charity Foundation’s work within the local community.
Participants spent a night pitchside at the iconic Ibrox Stadium embracing the cold winter’s night, getting a small glimpse of what homeless people in the city experience nightly.
Amongst the fans braving the elements, Rangers Academy players Arran Kerr and Greig Thackray also took part in the Sleep Outs. Players from across the First Teams have also shown their support for the cause, displaying the strength of community across all aspects of the club.
First-team goalkeeper Jack Butland said: “The Rangers Big Ibrox Sleep Out is a hugely important event. It raises awareness and vital funds for homelessness in Glasgow. Our front-of-shirt sponsors – 32Red – are big supporters of this initiative. This year they contributed £10 to each and every person who braved the cold November night. All those who took part deserve enormous praise and they should be heartened that their collective efforts are directly helping tackle homelessness in the city. Well done to everyone involved.”
Half of the funds raised from the Sleep Outs will benefit the work of Glasgow City Mission and Simon Community Scotland, with the other half going to support the Rangers Charity Foundation’s work in the community.
32Red, Rangers front-of-shirt sponsor, provided the first £10 of each participant’s total. They also provided a hot breakfast the following morning to all who attended.
Adam Gaskell, Head of UK Brand Marketing, FDJ United said: “We’re proud to be supporting Rangers Charity Foundation and their work in the local community. At 32Red, our sponsorships are built to benefit communities, so we are honoured to be able to help such an important cause with the Big Ibrox Sleep Out once again. We’ve supported this event for many years now and it never ceases to amaze us how much the participants give and their overwhelming generosity. It is a fantastic and important initiative that Rangers fans should be extremely proud of.”
The full total raised from this year’s Sleep Outs will be announced in mid-December.

Team Soul emerged victorious at the Chennai Esports Global Championship (CEGC) 2025 BGMI Grand Finals, held from November 14 to 16 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, becoming the second team to lift the trophy under Tamil Nadu’s state-backed international esports initiative.

Organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) in partnership with Skyesports, the three-day championship marked a major milestone for Indian mobile esports. The finals drew hundreds of on-ground spectators and a significant nationwide digital audience, reinforcing the rapid growth of competitive gaming in the country.

Team Soul secured the title through the tournament’s newly introduced Smash Rule, a format designed to reward consistent performance while ensuring a high-stakes finish. After surpassing the Match Point threshold on Match 15, the team won the following match to seal the championship. The Grand Finals featured 16 leading Indian teams, including Soul, Gods Reign, True Rippers, Revenant Esports and Team Tamilas.

The CEGC featured a total prize pool of INR 1 crore, with INR 50 lakh allocated to the BGMI championship. The winners, Team Soul, took home INR 21.5 lakh, while runners-up True Rippers earned INR 11 lakh. Hydro from True Rippers was adjudged the Finals MVP.

Team Soul were felicitated by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin who handed over the championship trophy. His presence and direct participation highlighted the state’s strong commitment to recognising esports as a legitimate avenue for youth engagement, digital innovation, and sporting excellence.

The Chennai Esports Global Championship is India’s first state government backed international esports tournament. It reflects Tamil Nadu’s long-term plan to position esports as a powerful platform for skill development, digital opportunities and the growth of the creative economy. With CEGC, Chennai is being actively positioned as a future global hub for esports and gaming innovation.

The BGMI Grand Finals followed the conclusion of the CEGC Counter-Strike 2 championship the previous week, which brought together top teams from Europe, Southeast Asia and India. The CS2 tournament reached more than 90,000 peak concurrent viewers across official streams and watch parties, making it India’s most-watched PC esports event.

Commenting on the tournament, Shiva Nandy, Founder and CEO, Skyesports, said, “The Chennai Esports Global Championship represents a new era for Indian esports. With the support of the Government of Tamil Nadu, we have shown that India can host world-class tournaments that match global standards while celebrating our own gaming community. S8UL’s win reflects the depth of talent in the country, and the enthusiasm for both the CS2 and BGMI championships shows that India is ready to be a serious player on the international esports stage.”

The success of CEGC BGMI 2025 reinforces India’s position as one of the fastest growing gaming markets, with more than 450 million gamers and a rapidly accelerating esports ecosystem. With strong state support and industry execution, the CEGC model sets a benchmark for scalable and sustainable esports growth in India.
