The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) called on all parties engaged in the supply chain of sports event data that facilitates betting markets, to come together to adhere to a global best practice model.

As an Affiliate Member of the IBIA and a trusted supplier of data to the sports and betting industries, Stats Perform, the revolutionary leader in sports AI and data, has consistently advocated for best practice standards when it comes to the event data that drives betting markets. The need for global standards in event data is something we have been discussing with the IBIA for some time now, and we fully support and commend them and its members for leading the call in this area. We will work with them on establishing a global best practice model for sports event data.

Risk management and the protection of data quality and integrity are of paramount importance to Stats Perform and these areas are the subject of continual heavy investment. This is reflected in the company’s betting data services being widely acknowledged as the premium product in the marketplace. Whilst investment in quality and integrity to this extent also results in the product carrying a premium price point, Stats Performs clients and partners appreciate the trust they can attribute to our data given the common interest in the integrity of sport.

Andrew Ashenden, Chief Betting Officer, commented: “As a truly global sports entity, with considerable business across the media and professional sports sectors as well as betting, trust in sport is paramount to us, as well as being vital for all our customers and the sports industry itself. Over many years we have invested in an unparalleled integrity and quality control infrastructure and that investment continues to be at the heart of our operations. Data integrity issues wherever they originate are harmful for the industry and we are looking forward to contributing our expertise via the IBIA and its members on the development of global best practice. We have always maintained that collaboration in this space across sporting federations, governing bodies, third party integrity providers, regulators, operators and data suppliers is vital.”

Jake Marsh, Head of Integrity, stated: “At Stats Perform, we have the strongest quality assurance and integrity processes in place across the whole data supply chain and have a long-standing collaborative approach with the sport and betting industry, which is reflected by our many partnerships, including our affiliate membership of the IBIA. We look forward to working with all their members and other stakeholders on best practices in order to help protect the integrity of sport and betting.”

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has published a consultation paper on suspicious betting reporting requirements and other sports integrity measures.

In August 2019, the Malta Gaming Authority announced the establishment of a Sports Integrity Unit. It is the Authority’s intention to implement a set of Suspicious Betting Reporting Requirements, which will oblige B2C licensees offering betting on sporting events to inform the Authority of any instance of suspicious betting.

Prior to bringing into force these requirements, the Authority is reaching out to stakeholders for feedback on the proposed mechanisms for due consideration. In consolidating perspectives of interested parties through public consultation, the Authority is better placed to implement effective and efficient regulatory processes around suspicious betting in the sports betting sector.

In addition, the Authority is also interested in initiating a dialogue with B2B licensees to consider what their contribution towards sports integrity can look like in terms of detection and exchange of information with either B2C licensees, or the Authority itself.
