Ho Iat Seng, the new Chief Executive of Macau, has promised to protect the future of Macau’s gaming and tourism industries.

Speaking at a media conference in Beijing, Ho pointed to the “one country, two systems” principle and national security law as playing an important role in the stability of the city which in turn was vital to its ongoing prosperity.

“One can see that Macau has been doing quite well over the past 20 years in the one country aspect, including the enactment of a national security law. With such legislation, we can prevent interference by foreign influences. If they dare to come to intervene, we will make use of our law to safeguard the one country. We won’t allow foreign influences to have a hand in Macau’s affairs,” Ho said.

“Macau cannot afford to fall into chaos. Macau is a tourism city. Our major revenue comes from tourism and the gaming industry. We need to protect people’s livelihood,” Ho added.

Asked about the impending expiration of Macau’s six gaming concessions and sub-concessions in 2022 and the progress of plans for re-tendering, Ho explained that a draft had already been developed which would be refined and amended once the new administration takes over in December.

Sportradar, the global leader in sports data intelligence, today announced it is to sell the media rights for the upcoming CEV Tokyo Volleyball European Qualification 2020 on behalf of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV).

The agreement is part of an existing collaboration between the CEV and Sportradar that has run since 2007, which also includes the exclusive global marketing of media rights for the CEV Champions League and the OTT video platform EuroVolley.tv.

The media rights are for both the men’s and women’s competitions, which run from January 5th – January 12th 2020, with both events deciding the final European teams for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Sportradar’s Senior Director, Audiovisual Broadcast, Lutz Tigges, said: “Tokyo 2020 is set to be the standout sporting event of next year and is a major milestone moment for athletes, sports fans and broadcasters. To participate in the Olympics is the pinnacle for European volleyball teams, so these qualifiers are primed to guarantee thrilling moments, fantastic competition and big audiences.”

While the men’s qualifier will take place in Berlin, Germany, the women’s will be held in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Both competitions include an eight-team group stage, split into two pools, before the semi-finals and the final, with the winner ensuring a spot at the Olympic Games next year.

In total there are 30 matches, which will feature EuroVolley2019 finalists Serbia and Slovenia in the men’s competition and 2019 women’s runners-up Turkey. All matches will be produced in full HD to an international high-end standard with at least 9+1 cameras and international match graphics.

A three-minute highlight package will be produced shortly after each match and made available to broadcasters, news channels and social media platforms.

Senator Raymond Lesniak and Jamaal Lesane set to join stellar line-up

Two new speakers are to share their knowledge with delegates at next month’s Sports Betting USA conference in New York after being added to the roster.

Former New Jersey Senator Ray Lesniak and Jamaal Lesane, Senior Vice President, Legal and Business Affairs at The Madison Square Garden Company, will take to the stage on the second day the Metropolitan West.

Senator Lesniak, who was the instigator and driving force behind the legal battle that led to the repeal of PASPA, will deliver the keynote address.

Lesane is at the vanguard of venue owners looking to optimise in-stadia facilities for sports fans and will join the panel discussing the monetisation of the game day experience.

Sports Betting USA, which takes place 5-6 November and follows a one-day investor summit, will examine the opportunities and challenges of the wagering industry that has been estimated to be worth up to $150 Billion.

Event director Rory Credland believes the show, now in its third year, has a stronger line-up than ever and has become a must attend event for those with a stake in the growing market.

He added: “We’re delighted to welcome another two great speakers to Sports Betting USA and are confident they will have a lot to contribute to the exchange of knowledge.

“Senator Lesniak in particular needs no introduction and is one of the main reasons we are all gathering in New York. It will be fascinating to hear his take on the way other states can follow the lead of New Jersey in the coming months.”

Among the other highlights of this year’s show will be a presentation by New York Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr, who will share his state’s vision for sports betting as they look to include its legalisation in the 20/21 budget.

They will be joined by senior executives from leading operators, suppliers and media companies, including William Hill USA, Penn National Gaming and Sportradar, as well as representatives of sporting organisations including the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
