GameSecure-Sightline Sightline Joins Forces with Responsible Gaming Solution GameSecureReading Time: 2 minutes

The partnership aims to connect payment solutions and a centralized real-time self-exclusion database for increased player protection

Las Vegas-based Sightline Payments (“Sightline”) and Vancouver based Bencon Technologies Inc. (“Bencon”) have entered into a partnership to bridge the current technological gap between digital self-exclusion functions and payment services. The goal of the partnership is to ensure at-risk patrons are denied access to content or payment services in real-time.

The first quarter of 2019 has resulted in a number of violations of self-excluded patrons gaining access to content in the US market, meaning regulator fines have been issued to non-compliant operators, unfortunately, the damage to the patron is already done. GameSecure’s real-time database solution will ensure these patrons do not gain access to digital content once self-excluded and by partnering with  it creates another barrier to a patron’s payment activity.

“The Sightline team has been committed to responsible gaming for more than 20 years and we are very excited to announce this important partnership,” said Cameron Conn, Co-Founder of Bencon Technologies Inc.

“We strongly believe there is not a singular solution to completely address all aspects of player protection and responsible gaming, however, partnerships like these allow for better solutions that will give continued insights into at-risk behavior for improved responsible gaming programs.”

“Sightline is in a unique position because our Play+ ecosystem, in the US, connects to nearly 100% of all digital platforms and 90%+ of all casino management systems, allowing for a uniform capability for a network-wide self-exclusion program through our SPAN Network,” said Kirk Sanford, CEO and Founder of Sightline Payments.

A primary goal of the partnership will be to work with the responsible and problem gambling communities to ensure these new solutions will work to enhance future programs for player protection.

“The Responsible Gambling Council is pleased to hear about the partnership between GameSecure and Sightline.  We believe that safeguards are imperative to the success of any self-exclusion program,” stated Shelley White, CEO of Responsible Gambling Council in Canada.

Keith Whyte, the Executive Director of the US National Council on Problem Gaming adding: “Congratulations to Bencon and Sightline for this step to further integrate responsible gaming into payment methods for the industry.  Streamlining player protection is an important goal for the National Council on Problem Gambling, and we are pleased to support this innovative effort.”

“Self-exclusion programs have been in existence for years with the on-premise ATM providers, however, until now nothing has existed for the digital world which is where the industry is moving,” added Sanford.

Bencon is currently working with multiple jurisdictions in the United States (and internationally) to integrate GameSecure into their Responsible Gaming Programs.

Sumo-Showdown OneTouch unleashes heavyweight Sumo ShowdownReading Time: 1 minute

Supplier’s second slot marks innovative addition to rapidly expanding content portfolio

Mobile-first games developer OneTouch has released its latest blockbuster slot game, the Japanese-themed Sumo Showdown.

The 4×4 grid game, featuring 10 payways, is the second slot from the innovative provider and follows the success of its debut game Juicy 7 unveiled in November this year.

Sumo Showdown centres on the ancient Japanese sport of Sumo wrestling with gargantuan warriors filling the reels and helping players to massive wins. Alongside the giants of the ring, the reels are packed with traditional oriental symbols including bonsai trees and a panoramic view of Mount Fuji.

The game’s exciting bonus feature includes respins when the Sumo symbol lands on both the first and fourth reels. These symbols act as scatters and do not have to be part of a payline to unlock winning spins. Random sticky wilds, in the form of a gyōji, or Sumo referee, can also replace symbols on the reels.

Ollie Castleman, Head of Marketing, OneTouch, said: “Sumo Showdown is the second slot game in our rapidly expanding portfolio of games content and its elegant design and fun gameplay is sure to be a massive hit with players across a number of key markets.

“Featuring easy to understand payways and a straightforward bonus feature, the user-friendly game will appeal to casual players and experienced gamers alike, and we’re delighted to add this slot to our burgeoning portfolio.

OneTouch’s collection of games also boasts Juicy 7, as well as classic casino table games Baccarat, Blackjack, Hold’em Poker, Russian Poker and Sic Bo, featuring cutting-edge sounds and graphics, while retaining the classic games’ authentic features.

gambling-grants New South Wales families and youth at centre of responsible gambling grantsReading Time: 1 minute

Five universities will share in almost $400,000 funding from the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling for research to help prevent and reduce gambling harms.

The office’s director, Natalie Wright, said the 2019 Responsible Gambling grants support innovative projects with a focus on youth, families and new technology.

“Technology and in particular online betting have made it easier than ever before for people to gamble,” Ms Wright said.

“We need to better understand betting motivations and what approaches work best for people at risk of gambling harm.

“It’s also important our research looks into the impact of gambling technology and innovation on younger people as well as the effectiveness of support for families of problem gamblers.

“By funding programs and research projects like these, we will further develop and underpin the evidence base for responsible gambling policy and programs.”

Of the five successful grants, four will focus on youth and family with studies on issues including the effects problem gambling has on family members and how to best educate young people about the risks associated with gambling.

The successful projects are:

·         Design Innovation Research Centre, University of Technology, Sydney: Design an animation series educating young people on responsible gambling

·         The Australian National University: Addressing gambling harms experienced by female concerned significant others

·        Central Queensland University: Loot boxes: Are they grooming youth for gambling

·        Deakin University: Family member treatments: Systematic review and content analysis across addictions

·        University of Sydney Business School: Do ‘cash-out’ products offered by bookmakers exploit behavioural biases.
