Police in the Kaohsiung province of Taiwan have busted large illegal online gambling ring. They have arrested 10 people and seised NT$623,000 (US$20,250) in the process. The police conducted raids in three locations following a tip-off. They also arrested the man suspected to be the boss of the online gambling business.
Apart from cash, the police also seised 18 mobile phones, 36 computers, tablets and laptops, five monitors and other electronic devices.
According to police, the online gambling ring was being operated on the scale of a company, with various business divisions, including a control room and promotional and custom services sections.
The company attracted clients through Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites with fancy offers.
The police estimates that the company received NT$250 million in bets and may have registered a profit of around NT$47.7 million police.
