The latest report published by Swedish gaming regulator – Lotteriinspektionen, for the first three quarters of the year reveals that the revenue of unlicensed operators increased, while that of the licensed operators decreased slightly.
According to the report, gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached €1.5 billion during the period, a 1 per cent year-on-year increase.
However, licensed operators suffered a 2 per cent dip in revenues and their overall revenue reduced to €1.1 billion. State monopoly gaming operator Svenska Spel also suffered a 2 per cent decrease in revenues to €620 million. On the other hand, unlicenced operators got a 12 per cent year-on-year hike and reported a revenue of €436 million.
The revenue of land-based gaming also fell by 9 per cent, while the online sector reported a 23 per cent rise. Sweden’s new gambling regulations will come into effect on 1 January 2019. The country has received 60 license applications, 55 of them for online gambling.
