Atlantic City’s Tropicana casino has launched its sports book in the New Jersey, one of the first US states to legalise sports betting. Tropicana has started the initiative in partnership with William Hill US. The company also runs sports books at the Monmouth Park racetrack and Ocean Resort Casino.
According to information from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), sports betting activity in the state nearly doubled in September, mainly because of the start of the NFL season. The figures show that sports betting activity reached the US$183.9 million mark in September – almost double August’s US$95.6 million. On-site sports bets placed at casinos increased to US$79 million, which is US$5.1 million more than August and represents a 7 per cent increase. However, that number was overshadowed by internet bets, which stand at US$104.9 million, approximately US$80 million more than August’s US$21.7 million.
