NSM drive contactless and mobile functionality post ACOS

NSM drive contactless and mobile functionality post ACOSReading Time: 2 minutes

With venues on the lookout for the ‘next big thing’ to increase footfall, NSM is following its successful showcase at ACOS by giving the operators what they want and enhancing its focus on efficiency-led tech and customer-led payment models.

ACOS provided an ideal platform for the launch of NSM’s latest machine, Thunder, and with solid orders for both its new jukeboxes at the show, it’s now all about listening to the industry on the finer details according to the company’s sales manager, Alex Kirby. He explained: “For a company which prides itself on designing its machines based on customer feedback it was incredibly encouraging that we received only positive responses to both the Thunder and Lightning machines at show. It’s testament to how much we listen that these new machines are already delivering on every technical aspect which matters to our customers so obviously our next goal is to focus on what the features on both machines can deliver.”

Giving the operators what they want is an essential part of NSM’s business and ACOS saw the company delivering on this with a number of flexible payment plan models and by putting customers testimonies at the heart of its commitment to fixed music fee. Kirby said: “With everything we do, we’re accommodating what operators and customers need. Our commitment to the fixed music fee was welcomed at the show and after researching thoroughly and liaising with customers, we’ve still found that the fixed fee model is the clear winner for 99% of our customers.”

The show also highlighted the industry’s desire to find the ‘next big thing’ in a bid to drive coin drop and at the same time create a greater footfall and increase wet-sales for licensee’s according to Kirby. He explained: “We have known from talking to customers over the last few years that affordability is key for UK operators and we’re delivering on that across our portfolio. However, footfall isn’t what it used to be and people are searching for ways to stand out and give customers what they want so accessibility plays a big part in this.”

Accessibility on the Thunder and Lightning machines is being delivered via NSM’s contactless capability and mobile app, which has doubled in size over the last nine months alone, both of which Kirby states are important components for the industry at this time. He explained: “We were way ahead of the industry with our contactless and mobile app and ACOS proved these attributes are what people want from their jukeboxes in 2018. With contactless, we’ve been invested in this technology for years, but only recently have we seen a marked growth in its use as more and more customers turn on to the technology. Contactless is going to be a big deal in the coming years and our machines have the specifications and efficiency to cope with this growing demand.”

He concluded: “The key to jukeboxes is creating the perfect environment. If you get that right then increased footfall and wet-sales follow and in our experience, the operators and venues who do get it right see higher revenue overall. It’s not magic, it’s all about the music!”

Vixio Finds Over €36m in AML Fines Issued in Europe in the Last Year

Vixio, a leading provider of regulatory intelligence solutions, ‍is proud to announce its Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Outlook, which found that regulators are cracking down on money laundering weaknesses with severe consequences, totaling over €36m in fines from March 2024 to March 2025 in Europe alone.

Vixio’s AML Outlook examines the challenges of complying with AML requirements in jurisdictions around the world, outlines regulators’ efforts to thwart criminal activity, and considers how payments and gambling firms can prevent being caught up in money laundering scandals.

The report found that in the last year, in the European area alone, there have been around 30 enforcement actions from regulators fining payments and e-money firms for falling short in their adherence to AML/CTF rules.

Financial institutions found to have money laundering weaknesses face profound consequences, with prosecutors and regulators alike generally unwilling to be empathetic on this matter. For example:

  • In March 2025, Germany’s regulator, BaFin, fined Ratepay €25,000 over suspected money laundering.
  • In February 2025, Estonia’s Money Laundering Data Bureau revoked B2BX Digital Exchange OÜ’s licence for failing to implement proper customer due diligence, transaction monitoring and risk assessments.
  • The Bank of Lithuania, meanwhile, revoked Foxpay’s licence in November 2024 for systemic AML/CTF and governance failures, including fund mismanagement and conflicts of interest.

John Gidla, Head of Payments Compliance, Vixio, explains, “Although AML compliance involves significant costs for payments firms –  including investment in transaction monitoring systems, customer due diligence (CDD) processes and ongoing staff training – the consequences of failure can be significant. In addition to financial penalties, failing to prevent money laundering can severely damage a firm’s reputation, leading to loss of customers, partners and investor confidence. Maintaining a strong compliance framework is crucial for preserving trust and long-term business viability.

Until now, the EU’s AML enforcement has been more fragmented, but the EU’s new Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA) could be a significant step towards addressing AML enforcement and closing gaps that criminals have been exploiting for years.

Regulatory scrutiny means that firms need to implement know your customer (KYC) procedures, monitor transactions on their systems for suspicious activity and report concerns through suspicious activity reports (SARs) to the relevant authorities.
