New York Police nabs gambling and prostitution ringReading Time: 1 minute

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has busted a gambling and prostitution ring that was running in the city for the last three years and, most embarrassingly for the department, was aided by retired and currently serving employees. The police arrested one retired vice detective and seven currently serving cops.

The seven current staffs include three sergeants, two detectives and two police officers. They were charged with enterprise corruption, promoting prostitution and official misconduct.

More arrests of police personnel are likely in this case. Investigators are targeting an additional 30 cops for questioning and possible arrest, sources said Wednesday night.

More than 40 civilians have also been arrested, sources said.

The investigation was launched in 2015, “after a member of the department suspected illegal activity by other members of the department and reported to Internal Affairs,” a source said.

Part of the investigation was centred on the Brooklyn South Narcotics building, which spent much of Wednesday on lock-down, with the electronic devices of all personnel seised. Police sources identified those arrested.
