FanDuel, the Ireland-based company, has obtained license from the West Virginia Lottery Commission to launch a sportsbook in the state. The company will roll out the service at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, with which it already has a partnership agreement.
The Greenbrier has not obtained the license to operate facility. That is why the launch date is not fixed yet. “We had hoped everyone would launch at the same time and everyone would be up at the beginning of football season,” Boyd said on MetroNews and added: “As we move forward, it appears that we’re going to have sort of a phased launch and it’s going to be a tiered approach. We’re just really excited to see that Charles Town will be ready to launch by September 1st.”
FanDuel began operating in New Jersey at the Meadowlands Racetrack back in mid-July. However, it is still unclear when it will begin doing so in West Virginia, as all it needs for being clear to do so is The Greenbrier to pay the US$100,000 licence fee in order to get the permit.
