Foreign companies flock into American online gambling sector

As the online sports betting sector in the USA is going to undergo a revolution, following the US Supreme Court’s ruling that allows individual states to formulate its own rules and regulations for online sports betting, a number of companies are jumping into the betting bandwagon. Many of these companies are foreign.

Take a recent deal announcement from MGM, about a 25-year joint venture with GVC to provide online casino, poker, and sports betting.

GVC is a British company. The other eight companies GVC compares itself to are:

  • Bet365 – British
  • PaddyPower Betfair – British
  • William Hill – British
  • The Stars Group (incl Sky Betting and Gaming) – Canadian
  • Kindred Group – wedish
  • Betsson – Swedish
  • 888 Holdings – British
  • Jackpotjoy (owner of Intertain) – British

Now take the case of companies that provide software and technology support to the betting industry.

  • Kambi – Swedish
  • IGT – Italian
  • SBTech – Isle of Man
  • SportRadar – Norwegian/Swiss
  • BetGenius –British
  • Mionmi– British/international
  • CG Technologies – USA
  • Scientific Games – USA

There are only two companies based in the USA.

This situation is likely to change in the future, may be well within a decade or so. More US companies are likely to emerge as sport betting become popular in the country.
