The Australian state of Queensland is conducting a RESPONSIBLE Gambling Awareness Week runs from Monday July 30 – Sunday August 5. The main objective of the initiative is to inform the public about ways to gamble without causing harm to oneself, one’s family and friends.

The theme for this year is “How does your gambling stack up?” The move intends to o encourage gamblers to develop responsible gambling habits, as well as highlighting the support available to anyone who feels they may have a problem with gambling.

Centacare North Queensland’s Gambling Help programme manager Lucy Stephens said there is a lot of stigma attached to problem gambling, and seeking help is not an option for some.

“We want to encourage people to seek help where a gambling problem is identified, and we want to remind family and friends affected by this problem that they, too, can see us for support,” Ms Stephens said.

Centacare North Queensland’s Gambling Help programme will have a number of displays across Mount Isa including Centacare offices and Buffs Club Mount Isa next Tuesday from 1pm to 4pm.

The Queensland Government has launched their new Gambling Help website to coincide with Responsible Gambling Awareness Week.

The website has self-assessment tools, a downloadable self-help guide, a spend calculator and tips for getting your gambling under control.
