Dutch regulator slaps fine on Bet-At-Home

Kansspelautoreit, the Dutch gambling regulator, has slapped a 410,000 Euro fine on Bet-At-Home for actively promoting online gambling services and products to Dutch citizens and allowing them to access company websites.

The regulator issued the fine after a year-long investigation, after obtaining evidence of television commercials targeting Dutch players and issuing repeated warnings to the company.

Kansspelautoreit officials were able to open gambling accounts with the companies despite using IP addresses pertaining to the Netherlands, and could fund the accounts via a Dutch payment processor recommended by the websites.

The fines are the latest to be issued following repeated warnings from the regulator that it will pursue and prosecute operators who violate Dutch gambling laws and regulations.

Bet-At-Home has not yet commented on the punishment, but the fines could prove contentious, given that Dutch online gambling legislation is yet to emerge from parliament.
