Irish Gambling Site Lists Atlanta As Favorite To Land Amazon

Irish online bookmaker Paddy Power is taking action on Amazon’s high-stakes choice for a second headquarters.

The bookmaker, which has famously taken bets on U.S. Presidential elections, pegs Atlanta as a 2-1 favorite to land the online retail giant’s second home base. Amazon says it will create some 50,000 new jobs from the project, which would cost around $5 billion and generate a lot of economic activity in the region.

Paddy Power has odds for other cities in the sweepstakes: Austin at 11-4; Philadelphia at 7-1; Boston at 8-1; and Toronto and Rochester at 10-1. Miami and Chicago are both listed at 12-1.

Some 200 jurisdictions globally reportedly have tried to woo Amazon.

In addition to Amazon, Atlanta has received interest from MGM Resorts International for a Las Vegas-style. The casino operator pitched a $2 billion casino for the city, but so far state lawmakers have expressed little interest in legalizing casino gambling.

That’s despite the majority of voters wanting casinos.

As for Amazon, state officials reportedly have offered “the most aggressive” incentives package in Georgia history to land what is dubbed as “HQ2.”
