Melco Resorts looks to open its latest addition to casino resort City of Dreams Macau – a new hotel tower named Morpheus – on June 15 2018. Stated the firm’s chairman and CEO Mr. Lawrence Ho Yau Lung during a press conference on Tuesday.
Mr. Ho added the new US$1.1-billion hotel tower would specifically cater to the premium mass segment, featuring no VIP junket areas.
“From the get-go, we wanted to be different,” – commented Ho.
“In most of our resorts, less than five percent of GFA is in gaming,” he said, adding that he designed Morpheus, and the City of Dreams portfolio to target the lucrative premium mass segment.
“With COD, it was always meant to be a next-gen IR. That was always the goal of Morpheus too, which completes our COD rebrand,” he said.
“There has been no one spending US$1.1 billion in a hotel tower – it is enough to build a resort,” he noted.
“The investment is pretty large and we hope the Macau government will reward our efforts and grant us [new gaming] tables,” he continued.
At the press conference Mr. Ho also mentioned his new hotel brand called “Libertine” which is going to taske the place of Hard Rock Hotel in NYC 2019. Mr. Ho didn’t forget to mention its plans regarding the island of Cyprus, stating that groundbraking is going to begin on June 8, 2018.
