The total contribution of Disney Worldwide Services Inc. towards an attempt to pass a constitutional amendment that could make it harder to expand gambling in Florida has risen to $4.7 million after the latest instalment of $105,000. The donation goes to Voters in Charge, which is trying to push a constitutional amendment that would make it harder to expand gambling in the state.

According to a finance report filed last week with the state Division of Elections, Disney made the cash contribution in March.

In all, the committee had received about $6.74 million as of March 31, including the donation from No Casinos Inc.

The proposed constitutional amendment, which will appear as Amendment 3 on the November ballot, seeks to change the Florida Constitution and allow voters the “exclusive right to decide whether to authorize casino gambling” in the state. It requires 60% votes for approval.

It would require voter approval of casino-style games in the future and effectively reduce the power of the Legislature and governor to decide gambling-related issues.
